Setting Website Preferences
You can set a number of global preferences for your site via the control panel. Hopefully these settings are mostly self explainatory, but just in case we'll go through them here.
How to Get There
Navigate to the website preferences screen via the links located either in the toolbox or on the admin home page. Once you arrive at the settings screen there are a number of preferences and options that can be set.
Website Status
By default your website is set to Live. This means that the general public will be able to access your site via the Internet when your website address is typed into a web browser.
If the Down for Maintenence option is selected, when people visit your website, rather than being able to view the site, a "Down for Maintenence" screen will be displayed.
The Down for Maintenence Screen

This option can be used when you need to perform major reworks or you need to urgently stop people from accessing your website.
Website Name and Slogan
You can change the name displayed at the top of your website via these general preferences. Also, some website skins feature a site slogan that can quickly sum up what your website is about. Enter a catchy phrase in this field to take advantage of this feature.

Description and Keywords
These fields help search engines find your website. The best words to enter as keywords are words that are not already contained within your site, but people looking for sites like yours might use these terms in a search.
The description is potentially returned in the context of online searches and gives the user an idea of what your site is about so they can decide whether to visit or not. The description should sum up the main theme of your website.

Contact Details and Site Logo
Enter an email address that will act as a point of contact or people visiting your website. The email address you provide will be activated when people click on the Contact Us link present on most skins.

Additionally, you can upload a logo that will be displayed at the top of most skins. You may want to check that your logo is suited to the space provided within the skin.
